Janaína Torres's bustling boteco on the ground floor of Niemeyer's Copan building, regional Brazilian cooking done properly rather than a tourist reskin. Feijoada only lands Wednesdays and Saturdays, so time it, and order the passionfruit-and-tangerine caipirinha.

The original 1933 mortadela-sandwich counter inside the Mercado Municipal, generously stacked with Ceratti bologna on crusty French bread — the single most-cited must-eat in the whole market. It's a traditional market counter, so carry a little cash as a backup.
Split one — it's a full meal of mortadela on its own, and the market has too much else worth trying.

A Mercadão institution since 1952 and the other half of the market's signature pairing — the fried codfish pastry (pastel de bacalhau) here is the benchmark version, sized like a full lunch. Same old-school counter setup as its neighbor, so keep some cash on hand.

Chef Thiago Bañares's yōshoku restaurant — Japanese comfort food filtered through Western technique, a single fixed-menu format, more accessible in price than his Michelin counter Kuro.
The Bañares option if Kuro is booked out or over budget — same kitchen sensibility, easier to get into.

The benchmark roastery, a Jardins standby, an all-day base off Augusta: specialty coffee that tolerates a laptop.
FeatureIsabela Raposeiras's roastery-and-barista-school in Pinheiros, the most-decorated specialty café in the country and still the one serious coffee people name first. Come for a pour-over and a quiet weekday laptop hour; weekends it fills up and turns social.

One of São Paulo's original farm-to-cup cafés, tucked off Rua Augusta near Paulista. Brunch through late night, work-friendly tables, and a wine-and-cocktail turn after dark make it a genuine all-day base.

An earthy, plant-filled all-day brunch café in Pinheiros — a regular in remote-worker roundups as a calm laptop spot away from the busier Rua dos Pinheiros strip.
Quieter than most of Pinheiros' laptop cafés — the healthy-brunch menu is a bonus, not the reason to go.
Order: The all-day brunch plate and a flat white
A small specialty-coffee spot near Praça Roosevelt, running since 2014, known for its pastries and a genuinely welcoming stance toward laptop customers — none of the two-hour-purchase etiquette you hit elsewhere.
Small enough that it fills fast — go before 10am if you actually want a table for the morning.

The Jardins flagship of a well-established São Paulo café group, right on Rua Oscar Freire — a sit-down veranda format that suits a laptop meeting over a full café menu.
More restaurant-café than coworking spot — better for a working coffee meeting than a solo marathon session.

The coxinha people cross the city for, two world-ranked cocktail rooms, and samba every night of the week.
A tiny corner bar people cross the city for, built on one thing: the chicken-and-catupiry coxinha, plus a jaboticaba caipirinha. No reservations and always a crowd, so show up before 6pm or resign yourself to the sidewalk.

A Vila Madalena live-music bar near Beco do Batman with samba and MPB every single night, plus feijoada on Wednesdays and weekends — the reliable neighborhood pick when you want live samba without a cover-charge club.

A cocktail bar from bartender Márcio Silva and chef Manu Buffara, the only Brazilian bar on the World's 50 Best Bars 2025 extended list — reopened in April 2026 above the Locale restaurant in Itaim.

Ibirapuera earns a whole Sunday, MASP anchors Paulista, and the graffiti alley earns ten minutes.
São Paulo's answer to Central Park: Niemeyer pavilions, a modern-art museum (MAM) with a pay-what-you-want door, and half the city out jogging on Sunday morning. Come Sunday, rent a bike at the gate, and fold in MAM while you're there.

The graffiti alley in Vila Madalena. The art is good and always changing, but weekends turn the lane into a slow-moving photo line with vendors and influencer shoots. Go before 10am on a weekday, take the picture, then spend your real time in the bars around it.

A vast park on the west side, free to enter, with cycling paths, sports courts, and Atlantic Forest woodland — the second-park option after Ibirapuera when you want more open trail and less crowd.

The weekend street market in Praça da Liberdade, running since 1975 — Japanese, Chinese, and Korean street-food stalls, crafts, and it sits right on top of the Japão-Liberdade metro exit. Payment habits vary stall by stall, so carry some cash.
Go hungry and graze — it's the cheapest, most varied meal on this whole list, stall by stall.
